Lord Please Help Me

“Lord Please Help Me”

It’s another day and I want to pray
But I don’t know what to say
And I don’t think anybody’s listening anyway
My body aches and I got the shakes
That came with my heartbreak
Man, what does it take
I drink some wine to ease my mind
Hang on the block to pass some time
Because I have to unwind before I commit a crime
I need some dope
That great false hope
Cause I cannot cope
I am about to let go of this rope.
Lord Please Help Me!

How did I get this way?
Well, let me see….
Was it my parents, my hood, my Blackness?
No, something is wrong with me
As I massage my misery, faking free but I’m a wannabe, wannabe free
My game is shame as I use blame to hide me from myself while I stake a claim into this hellhole we fondly call “The Game”
I clown with an upside down frown
Pimped out as a smile that covers the sound of my tears washing the ground
While happiness is nowhere to be found
When it started, I thought I was cool
I didn’t follow rules
School, that was for fools.
I played with life, like it was a toy
Fronting as a man but I was still a boy
Not realizing that the devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy
Game recognizes game or so they say
Players play, but you going to pay
And when the reaper reaps
He is playing for keeps
Could be your life, now that’s getting deep.
Lord Please Help Me!

I’m posted on real estate that’s not mine, on the grind, committing crime
But scared of the time because I see it slipping away along with my mind
Flowing through ghetto gutters into clogged sewers filled with the blood and dreams of other posted fools trying to find happiness in a nightmare
Well! Well! Here come my lady, Ms Slim Shady
She said she wants to have my baby and she won’t play me like she played Grady
Hey sugar, help a brother please, you know you my main squeeze
She looked at me with eyes that could freeze
Shady said, “Fool, me and you are through
I thought you knew.” But I didn’t have a clue
Let me go see my friend, Pimping Jim
Hey Jim, man hustling been slow
And my money is low.
Brother, can I get a play, on a dime bag today?
So I can go somewhere and lay.
Jim said, “Man I ain’t got time to hear you whine
I’ve got to get mine!”
Lord Please Help Me!

Who is this walking down these bricks?
It’s that sister from round the way; she used to turn tricks.
Heard she was saved, whatever that means
Now, a blind man can see that she’s fresh and clean
I wonder if she got any green.
Hey yo, my sister, what did you say?
She looked straight through me and said, “Jesus is the Way!”
He died on the Cross, for your sins to pay.
Confess with your mouth, the Lord Jesus
And that He rose, believe in your heart!
Jesus paid the price; can you do your part?
Pray with me, my brother, and, you will see
He’ll unlock your soul and set you free!”
I said, “Girl, don’t play with me
Can’t you see, I’m in misery
All my life I’ve been praying, Lord Please Help Me!”

Well I’ve tried everything else; I guess I’ll try God
Maybe with the Lord on my side, life won’t be as hard.
All I have to lose is this pain and shame;
I can get out of this game
And obtain a new name.
That God could love me was hard to believe
But a seed was planted and then it conceived
What I couldn’t find through dope and sin
I found when I opened up and let Him in
He became my friend
And promised to hang with me until the end
God is real; He has given me hope.
I can cope and I do not need any dope!
God answers prayer and now I can see
How He answered my prayer, Lord Please Help Me!
